Vermont Yankee Home

Vermont Yankee is our reliable source of in-state electric power and provides vital power to homes, businesses, and health and municipal facilities.

The 650 megawatts of electricity produced by Vermont Yankee provide one third of Vermont's electricity and enough power to the rest of New England to serve nearly 1/4 million homes.

While countless other facilities were forced to shut down during the August 14th blackout of 2003, Vermont Yankee stayed online, maintained full power output and even aided New York and the northeastern United States in restoring power

As your hometown power generator, Vermont Yankee reduces the need to import less reliable power from elsewhere.

Vermont Yankee realizes that renewable energy sources such as solar and wind will play a role in Vermont's Energy Future which is why they will have invested $32 million in renewables through the Clean Energy Fund by 2012.

However these sources are not currently sufficient enough to provide the huge amounts of baseload electricity or the 24/7 reliability necessary to fuel Vermont's growing needs. As a result the state needs Vermont Yankee to stay online for an additional 20 years so that it may serve as a bridge to a renewable energy future.
